***** The Charter Oak Governing Board took action on Thursday, July 15, 2010, approving
***** the MOU regarding the reduction in hours for instructional assistants, and rescinding
***** the lay offs for 16 instructional assistants.

***** VOTING RESULTS for JULY 14, 2010 ON MOU *****
On July 14, 2010, the membership who attended the ratification, ratified the MOU. 80% of the votes Yes... 20% of the votes No.
On July 7, 2010, CSEA and the district came to an agreement on the sixteen laid off instructional assistants.
This agreement would rescind the lay off notices, that is all 16 employees will return to work in September. However, it also reduces all instructional assistant positions down to three (3) hours a day. The whole Instructional Assistant class employees were called and polled as to their feelings about this concept. A majority of Instructional Assistants were in favor of keeping our family as whole as possible.
The district has committed to bringing back the 16 employees and having jobs for all 60 Instructional Assistants even tho this agreement does not save the District as much money as the lay offs would have saved.
We will be ratifying this agreement on Wednesday, July 14, from 8:00am - 4:00pm in the Instructional Materials Center, Educational Services.
Earlier in the year, CSEA asked members how they felt about furloughs in lieu of cuts. We finally got the dollar about that furloughs will save the district. For every classified ONLY furlough day, the District saves just over $34,000 a furlough day. This would mean that in order to save all the jobs that were laid off this year, we would have to be off over 20 days in the year.
Furloughs only work if all employees in the district are furloughed.
