Building Relationships and Member Participation

Health care system reform, retirement pension obligations, education funding, COLA; these are just a few of the issues your California State Legislator will be considering on your behalf. Does your state legislator know the impact their vote will have on your life? It is up to you to let your elected representative know so they can make an informed decision.

CSEA members need to lobby on these and other important issues for classified employees. The legislators need to learn the vital role classified employees play in the education of the students in California. It is up to the members to meet with their legislators in their local offices in order to establish a relationship with them and explain the impact their vote will have on their lives. Building these relationships will help when CSEA members need vital legislation passed that would enhance their rights or legislation defeated that would harm them. Build these relationships now before issues rise to a crisis level and everyone scrambles to their legislators to press their point of view. The legislators appreciate and support constituents who are with them from the beginning, not just in a crisis time.

To get involved with lobbying your legislator contact your Regional Representative or the field office who can put you in contact with your Regional Political Action Coordinator.

Member participation in future ballot initiatives and rallies will also continue to be vital for the message of CSEA to be heard. To get involved in future campaigns just complete the Member Volunteer Form. Everyone's help is needed to successfully communicate to the leadership in Sacramento to protect our pensions, jobs, support universal health care and provide financial stability to California.
