From: Christine Grimaldi CSEA Sisters and Brothers, The following does not come directly from CSEA, however CSEA is in support of health care reform and a public health care option. If we don't make a stand now for a public option, the Obama administration may hedge on its plan for health care reform. This weekend, the Obama administration indicated that it might be open to passing health care reform without any provision for a public insurance option similar to Medicare that could compete with private insurance companies. President Obama said that a public option was just a "sliver" of his plan. Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius went so far as to say that the public option was not an "essential" part of reform. The comments this weekend by the president and Secretary Sebelius rhetorically pave the way for the Obama administration to cave on a meaningful public option and instead accept toothless regional health care co-ops that would be unable to compete with insurance companies and keep them honest. I just signed a petition to tell President Obama that the public option is not optional and that he should tell Congress and the voters that he will not sign a bill without a robust public option similar to Medicare. I hope you will sign this petition too. Please have a look and take action. http://act.credoaction.com/campaign/publicoption_bo/?r_by=5551-1854365-dnxs2Gx&rc=mailto1 Christine Grimaldi CSEA President Chapter #274 Merced College (209) 384-6019 "We must remember that one determined person can make a significant difference, and that a small group of determined people can change the course of history.” - Sonia Johnson From: Christine Grimaldi CSEA New Hire Orientation Tuesday, Aug. 11th 11:00 am -12:00 pm, Lesher 309 New classified employees must attend All classified employees are encouraged to attend Bring a pen/pencil, paper and your CSEA Contract Please use your lunch hour to attend or make sure you have your supervisor’s approval to be away from your work area during this time If you are newly hired and unable to attend or would like more info., contact Christine Grimaldi at ext. 6019 For Immediate ReleaseFrom: Christine Grimaldi
Show Your Support For Our Schools CALL THE GOVERNOR’S OFFICE ON MONDAY, JULY 13 On Monday, July 13, public school buses from throughout the state will converge on the State Capitol in Sacramento. School bus drivers will circle the Capitol to protest state budget cuts that would put kids in danger. SAVE OUR SCHOOL BUSES — AND OUR SCHOOL BUDGETS! MONDAY, JULY 13 * 11AM – NOON CSEA is vigorously fighting against the cuts being contemplated by the governor and state legislators. The governor is proposing to cut state funding for school transportation by 65 percent, while state legislators are considering a 20 percent cut. CSEA’s school bus drivers know their transportation departments cannot absorb these cuts without devastating consequences. As if the devastation already done to our schools wasn’t bad enough, this is one more example of how the governor’s budget will gut public education. Our schools have already been cut by $11.6 billion. Now the governor wants to suspend Prop. 98 so he can make even deeper cuts to education. CSEA opposes reductions in school transportation, the suspension of Prop. 98 or any additional cuts to education. Our students deserve better! JOIN THOUSANDS OF SCHOOL BOOSTERS ON MONDAY
CALL THE GOVERNOR’S OFFICE: (916) 445-2841 Tell the governor you:
Now is the time to speak up!
