History
CSEA
was formed in 1927, at the suggestion of Chief Justice Earl Warren, by a
group of Oakland custodians who wanted a pension plan similar to what
other public employees had at the time.
The union is known for turning out thousands of campaign
volunteers to phone bank, precinct walk and volunteer at campaign headquarters.
The CSEA has even elected one of its own, former Chaffey Community
College instructional assistant Gloria Negrete-McCloud, who now represents
Assembly District 61.
