Whether you take a weekend seminar on dealing with difficult people or go back to college to get your degree, CSEA is here to help.
We are an active member of the education community, and a strong advocate for lifelong learning and professional growth. One of CSEA’s priorities is to negotiate
professional growth programs into your
contract to help you make the most of your paycheck and your career. We also offer our own training programs to classified employees.

CSEA seminars
CSEA also offers you many seminars on professional and communication skills on subjects ranging from conflict management to presentation skills. These training programs are presented by our Training Division, as well as members of the CSEA Trainer’s Bureau. Usually offered through district in-service and staff development programs, the seminars are free to union members (CSEA charges employers a small fee to offset the costs of travel and materials).
CSEA also sponsors professional conferences like the California Paraeducator Conference and Classified Professionals Institute. You can often get the cost of professional conferences paid by your employer through your professional growth program.
Career ladders
In recent years, many school districts have funded paraeducator career ladders to make becoming a teacher an affordable reality for many paraeducators and other instructional assistants. The California State University system also offers a program to recruit new teachers.
Occupational Training
Regional Occupational Centers and Programs offer more than 100 different courses within five different career programs: business office/marketing, industrial and health, consumer homemaking/home and agriculture. Adult education programs offer career enhancement in other areas including occupational apprenticeships, high school diploma and English as a second language. CSEA represents classified professionals in the state’s community college system, which offers a wide variety of degree-oriented and vocational programs. |
