Legal Referral Program

Worker's compensation
If you are injured on the job, you should first contact your labor relations representative. After giving the details of your incident to your labor relations representative, call the CSEA Legal Referral Program to obtain the name of a worker's compensation attorney.

Legal Assistance Fund
There is a procedure whereby financial assistance (up to $1,000) may be provided to a member in good standing alleged to have committed a criminal act while operating within the normal course and scope of his/her duties as an employee within a bargaining unit represented by CSEA.

Off-the-job legal referral
If you have a legal question or concern not related to your employment, CSEA has a Legal Referral Program you can call. Simple legal questions may be answered over the phone. If the problem or concern requires the further assistance of an attorney, the Legal Referral Counsel may provide you with the name of an attorney nearest to you.

As one of the benefits of CSEA membership, you are entitled to a half-hour free consultation with that attorney. If necessary, further legal representation may be available at special membership rates.

Legal Education Workshops
In addition to providing members with answers to simple legal questions, concerns and attorney referrals, the Legal Referral Program provides educational workshops for members and retirees. These workshops are designed to assist CSEA members with estate planning and the use of small claims court.

For more information on these chapter workshops, call the Legal Referral toll free line.

For legal help or more information call CSEA toll-free (800) 632-2128 ext. 1274.

Legal Referral hours: Monday & Wednesday 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and Friday 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
