CSEA offers immediate assistance to Southern California fire victims
CSEA's emergency and disaster relief funds are available to members
displaced by the San Bernardino County wildfires. The funds were
automatically activated when the governor declared a state of emergency
in the county on July 13.
Emergency Relief Fund
This fund provides immediate emergency assistance for temporary
housing, clothing, food, etc. to eligible CSEA members and staff
whose primary place of residence is uninhabitable as a result of
the disaster. Applicants' primary place of residence must be deemed
uninhabitable and partially or temporarily condemned by an official
agency (such as Fire, Police and/or Building Departments). The maximum
assistance under this program is $1,000 per applicant.
The Emergency
Relief Fund Application can be filled out in writing or requested
via telephone to the appropriate field office or CSEA Headquarters-Executive
Department. The request can be made by the eligible person or from
the chapter president, regional representative, or CSEA employee
on behalf of the eligible person.
Requests for Emergency Relief must be submitted by Aug. 17, 2006.
For more details on the Emergency Relief Fund, read CSEA
Policy 1010.
Dorothy Bjork Disaster Relief Fund
Under CSEA policy, this fund was triggered when Governor Schwarzenegger
declared a state of emergency in San Bernardino County.
This fund provides assistance to eligible members and staff for
uninsured loss as a result of the declared disaster. "Loss"
means loss of real or personal property only, the replacement costs
of which are not covered by insurance or not reimbursable from other
sources. "Loss" does not include loss of income or personal
or bodily injury. Applicants must have suffered a minimum net loss
of $2,500.
Applicants must complete the Disaster
Relief Fund Assistance Application. Completed applications
should be sent to CSEA Headquarters-Finance/Accounting Department.
The Disaster Relief Fund Administration Committee will screen applications
and determine the appropriate distribution by August 10, 2006. The
Board of Directors will make final approval of payment.
Requests for Disaster Relief must be submitted by Nov. 1, 2006.
