Retirement security has increasingly come under threat. As workers, we earn our retirement. It’s not a gift, and it certainly isn’t a benefit we can afford to lose. CSEA was founded in 1927 by a group of Oakland school custodians set out to secure retirement benefits. Today, their legacy is one that we fight to protect every day.

Feckner elected CalPERS Vice President

The CalPERS Board of Administration elected Priya Mathur as board president and Rob Feckner as vice president. Mathur is the first female elected president of the CalPERS board. This will be her first term. Feckner had served 13 consecutive terms as the board's president--the most in CalPERS history--and chose not to run for a 14th this year. Read More »

Change to the CalPERS service credit purchase

If you are a CalPERS member you may be eligible to increase your CalPERS lifetime retirement by purchasing one or more types of service credit. Service credit is one of the three factors that determine the amount of money you will take home in your retirement check. Requesting service credit can take up to one year to complete. Starting January 1, 2018, CalPERS is requesting the form on which you finalize your service credit purchase request be received by them prior to the date of your retirement. We recommend you submit your request for any service credit purchase at least one year prior to retirement but preferably at the earliest possible date after becoming eligible for the purchase. Rob Feckner re-elected as CalPERS President

The California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) Board of Administration unanimously re-elected former CSEA President Rob Feckner as Board President and Henry Jones as Vice President. Feckner will be serving his 13th term as president, while it will be Jones' third vice presidential term. Feckner is now the longest-serving president in CalPERS history. Read More »
